AI in Youth Work: A few words from our recent seminar!

On 1–6 December 2025, Kraków became a vibrant hub of ideas, innovation, and collaboration as youth workers from across Europe gathered for the seminar “AI in Youth Work.” The event brought together 20 youth workers from 10 NGOs, representing Portugal, Poland, Ireland, Hungary, Romania, Greece, North Macedonia, Slovakia, Italy, and Lithuania, to reach one goal: understanding how artificial intelligence can responsibly strengthen youth work and the third sector.

Conducted within the Erasmus+ accreditation of SIR for 2025–2027, the seminar was designed as more than a learning event. It laid the foundations for future youth exchanges, strengthened partnerships, and expanded the collective competence of participating organizations in digital innovation.

Throughout the week, participants explored the opportunities and challenges of AI, focusing on its ethical, practical, and societal implications. Interactive sessions such as World Cafés, fishbowl debates, open space discussions, and hands-on AI experiments encouraged critical thinking and real-life application. From understanding AI terminology to debating ethics and human rights, youth workers actively reflected on how technology can support—not replace—human-centered youth work.

The programme also fostered strong cooperation between NGOs. Activities like the NGO Fair, intercultural evenings, collaborative workshops, and networking sessions created space for meaningful exchange, trust-building, and future project planning. The seminar concluded with the joint preparation and presentation of outcomes for other NGOs – the Ethical Guidelines and a comprised set of AI tools that we recommend to use in NGOs!

By the end of the seminar, participants left Kraków more digitally aware, ethically grounded, and better equipped to integrate AI into their daily work with young people. “AI in Youth Work” proved that when innovation meets values, the future of youth work can be both smart and human-centered.

Please, note: this short note was generated by AI, based on the materials prepared during and after the seminar and participant feedback. :)
