Base(ball) for Equal Opportunities

(Poronin, 24-31 August 2007)

The idea of this project was born during the Youth Cup Tournament (Turniej o Puchar Młodzieży) in Warsaw, August last year. Our representatives who took part in that event were very influenced and motivated to carry out a similar event. Together with other members and later with our partners we decided to organise a sport exchange which will be also an excellent tool and a platform (base) to discuss and learn about serious problems of our everyday life and the entire Europe. The main activity during our project will be learning the rules and playing baseball, a team sport, simple but not very popular in our coutries. Starting with equal chances we will try to show that what differs us should not be a problem and proving that given equal opportunities we may achieve similar results, no matter what gender, culture or country we represent. During workshops we will talk about tolerance (with the bat as a negative simbol which should be used only for sport, that is good things) and other important global topics (represented by the ball). Finally we will carry out a tournament in mixedteams. Our main aim is toraise awareness of the right to equality and non-discrimination and learning respect and tolerance, promoting a more cohesive society by means of fun and sport.
